Ode to a Treat Bag

Wanna hear a silly post? I’m gonna talk all about my Large Olly Dog Treat Bag (Amazon link is to Medium. They must not have Large anymore.).

Here it is brand new when I got it in April 2016, shortly after I got Klaus. I had trouble finding a big enough bag to hold the mounds of kibble he needed for training.

Here it is now. Used and abused for a year, it’s held it’s shape, shows no signs of tearing or failing of any kind.

When I got in the groove of using this thing, I totally customized it. It was attached to me all the time so why not?! It held EVERYTHING I needed when out and about going to training classes, etc. Here’s the back where I took off the strap, cut it and savagely sewed it back where it fit me perfectly. I added a just-in-case letting for a quicky loop. *shrug*

Here’s another side I’ve mangled. I carefully placed a grommet in the side mesh pocket for my poop bags.  There is also that back/side pocket that has a little key clip I use for my house key during neighborhood walks. It’s a huge pocket so I put my car keys, lip balm (SuperGoop is my FAAAAAAAVE!!!), and wallet in there.

Here’s the other pocket. BARELY big enough to fit my iPhone Bazillion. But it’s super secure so if I run, frolic or face-plant into a bush, I won’t lose my second precious item (to me it’s first but I guess car/house keys are really first). Just the case pictured. I don’t have an invisible phone.

Just today, I took out the rough side of the Velcro for the front pocket since I only keep my Mini Educator remote in there now. It’s easy to reach and won’t fall out –I like to frolic, remember– as I attached one of those office name tag clips to it.

It closes with a tiny but mighty magnet up top. Since I’ve been weaning Klaus off treats and promoting obedience for respect (took me too long) there is room in the main section for my waterproof sit pad, ball and/or anything else I’d want to take or tote.

So that’s it! Ol’ squiggly, green bag has been with me this far and it still serves my purpose today! I hate carrying things and love being hands-free, so even if fanny packs make their triumphant comeback, my Olly Dog treat bag will be a part of our daily ensemble.

P.S. Olly Dog so DID NOT pay me for this opinion. It was a lazy Sunday that got me thinking there may be others happily obsessed with things like this. Have a great day guys!

May 2017

Our second longest road trip so far (with Klaus): Utah!!!

Sunset Campground (my fave, view-wise)

Moab Under Canvas. Luxury!

The Grand Canyon

Bedrock City. Last time I was here, I was 3.

Park People

My #ParkPeople saga started yesterday when I became a regular walker at my local park. The reason I started going to the park to walk Klaus is there are loose dogs, dogs behind unstable fences crazy and zero grass in my neighborhood.

This morning as I approached our park I saw a man “walking” his chihuahua. No leash, running around. Chihuahuas are my first love and I have one I could do that with since he has a reliable recall…… BBBUUUTTT!!!! I would never do that around so many people and other dogs!! Clearly this is a place for people to walk their dogs and most people are great with having their dogs on leashes. So what’s this guys deal? Thankfully I didn’t have to find out since I didn’t see him on the park trail. Most likely Klaus would have been confused and a little worried if (when) the chihuahua would have run up to him, but what if this guy freaked out (even though it would be his fault 100%) and came at me or tried to hurt Klaus?! S-t-r-e-s-s!

The second mega eye-roll came when we were leaving and this girl had three little dogs all on leashes…………………………………….dragging behind them. What’s the plan here? Gather leashes when one runs off to charge a dog or bird? She was walking near the main street too! People, I don’t want to witness doggy disaster. I’ve seen enough for one lifetime. #retiredvetgirl

My last story began yesterday when I noticed a lady with a stroller on the phone loudly saying something about a “huge dog…” when we passed by. Not a surprise, Klaus is shockingly large, unbelievably handsome and attracts good and bad attention, so it made me laugh that she was on the phone reporting what she saw LOL! What was even more hilarious is TODAY girlfriend was packing a baseball bat under her stroller!! I immediately felt a few things: I was of course offended at first, Klaus is the my baby AND clearly the most obedient dog there. He never pulls me, lunges at dogs, people or birds and always looks in control of his emotions, LOL. It’s obvious (maybe just to me since, again, he’s shockingly large and scary) by his demeanor that he doesn’t care about other people. This led me to my second thought. What if he desensitizes Bat Lady? It looks like she’s gonna be there every morning to walk her baby (so far anyways) and I intend on going EVERY SINGLE morning until I can huff and puff my way to a nice hiking trail. Assuming Klaus has healthy hips and body (I’d like to have xrays done in the next few months), my goal would be to hike wherever Johny can hike. With his long cheater-legs it won’t be easy. Lastly, I thought good for you, girl! She’s afraid of dogs, but wants to come to the park to walk. She’s just defending herself and her baby and she’s not the only park-walker who carries a stick. If I were scared of dogs, I probably would have changed parks cuz there are always A LOT of dogs here, LOL!

That’s it for today. People are starting to bother me less. Klaus seems to get a lot of stimulation going to this park and if I walk around the park strategically, people will leave us alone for the most part. Always lots of staring though, LOL!

Pupdate: March 2017

Klaus is great! He’s 97 pounds and almost 14 months old. We were completely ripped off with our previous trainer so we are starting with At The End Of Your Leash. Things are really tough for us both now that we are “detoxing” our previous knowledge and starting fresh. I’m confident things will continue to progress because he is growing into a fantastic dog!

Johny and I are planning a trip to Utah. It looks amazing but I’m already stressing about dog things, weather and of course unexpected stuff. It’ll be fun.

Other than that nothing else going on. Planning trips, working in the garden, playing with Klaus and the little ones, hanging out with my mom. Retirement is working out pretty good for me. #killinit

4 months / 7 months / 13 months

Here’s also a quick update with what’s happening. I hope y’all are following my Instagram. That’s where it all goes down. 🙂

  1. Klaus is doing great! He’s over 65# now and 6 1/2 months old. He’s having mediocre fun in protection training (he likes bite work but not obedience). His IG is @megalodog.klaus. He’s so photogenic!
  2. I retired! Yup. No more work for me. Well, if it works out okay anyways then perma-housewife it is!
  3. We took a week and went up to Sacramento to visit my BFF Shireen.

That’s about it for now. Here are some pictures from our “#upincalifornia” trip.

So the inevitable happened. My mom and I took the plunge and now we are both puppy moms again! Here’s my new buddy.

Yes his paws are ginormous. Stay tuned for his massive growing journey.
